The Austin-American Statesman newspaper reports that a runner, armed with a concealed weapon, stopped a rape in progress, sending the rapist running away without his pants.
According to police, Richard Jordon McEachern, 22, forced a female runner to the ground last Friday evening and began sexually assaulting her on a popular Austin hiking and biking trail. A male runner, who was carrying a flashlight and a concealed handgun, heard her screaming and saw the attacker on top of the girl. The armed runner pointed his gun at the rapist and demanded that he get off the woman. The attacker obeyed and stood up, naked from the waist down. He panicked, ran off without his pants, and was taken into custody by police after he was found sleeping near the trail, several days later, still naked from the waist down.
The mainstream media, in the form of the NY Times, Washington Post, CNN, NBC, et. al. keeping repeating the same mantra. They tell us that guns cause death and destruction and insist that even honest law abiding people should be disarmed. The episode in Texas, however, flies in the face of that argument. It goes a long way toward explaining why the most heavily armed nation in the world, Switzerland, also happens to have one of the world’s lowest crime rates.
